Ladies Wildlife Adventure

Just for the Ladies. Here is a fantastic opportunity for you to come to South Africa and ride a motorcycle with Andreea Maciuca the founder of Female Riders UK. This amazing motorcycle safari is almost certainly the first ever Ladies only Motorcycle Safari and it will take you across approximately 2000kms of beautiful South Africa.

If you are into History, Culture and Wildlife this is most definitely the motorcycle tour for you. The visit to Rorke’s Drift is moving, and the experience of the Game Lodges is not to be missed. The roads are fantastic for riding and the scenery is second to none. Enjoy the aptly named “God’s Window” in the Drakensberg Mountains, and relax in beautiful surroundings while dining in the open bush. This one truly is the motorcycle holiday of a lifetime.

Day 1

The bikes will be at this location and as soon as the paperwork is completed you can set about the task of making them yours for the next 10 days. Dinner that evening will be taken in the hotel and you will be briefed on the forthcoming tour. Please note: an early night is recommended!

Day 2

We will set off on the road at around 09.30hrs after the local traffic has subsided for what promises to be an amazing and informative trip. Our destination is the beautiful Golden Gate Highlands National Park, set just above the Kingdom of Lesotho in the beautiful Maloti Mountains. Here you will stay in luxury cabins overlooking the mountains and, depending on the time we arrive, you may want to take a short safari ride on some of the local trails spotting Zebra, Wildebeest and other antelope.

Day 3

After Breakfast you will head out to one of the most well-known battle grounds in South Africa. Riding some dirt roads to get to the lodge you will finally arrive at Rorke’s Drift – infamous, but delightful as an experience not to be missed. Located on the battlefields of kwaZulu-Natal, this little hamlet has seen some of the most significant moments in South Africa’s history.

The Battle of Rorke’s Drift in 1879 was part of the Anglo-Zulu war that saw the first defeat of the British Forces by an imposing Zulu Impi in the morning at Isandlwana, and a complete turnaround in the evening of the same day at Rorke’s Drift. Also during this time, the French Prince Imperial died in a skirmish and ended the Bonaparte dynasty. Today it is marked by a single cenotaph in a lonely field. At Fugitive’s Drift, another lone cenotaph raised to the honour of two men whose sole purpose was to preserve the Queen’s Colours and whose bravery was acknowledged by the award of a Victoria Cross. While here you can relax in the historic surroundings and dine at the lodge that evening. If time allows we will arrange a short visit to the local Zulu School which is located right alongside the battleground.

Day 4

Leaving Rorke’s Drift after breakfast, we head east. Northern KwaZulu Natal has many splendid natural beauties, but little can compare with the superb scenery to be seen in Swaziland. After a small border crossing, we will ride to the Mlilwane Nature Reserve where you will be staying for two nights in Beehive Huts. These are traditional Swazi homes. On the second day here you can explore the local area and visit many of the local attractions such as the famous Swazi candle factory or the wood carving village. You may even get treated to a display of traditional dancing. You can also book a game drive, horse riding, mountain bike tour and/or a walking tour around this delightful park.

Day 6

Today you will do something that until recently was not allowed. You will ride north out of Swaziland and into the world famous Kruger National Park. Alex Jackson ( your tour guide) lead the first motorcycle group into Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp on 29th Sept 2017 and has since secured permission to use the camp as an overnight stop. There is an abundance of wildlife surrounding the camp and you will join an afternoon game drive then dine in the bush african style. This really is one of the highlights of the tour for most people.

Day 7

After yesterday’s ride, today you will be heading north again. We will be staying Moholoholo Mountain View, in the heart of the bush – veld. We will stay here two nights, where you will be treated to a Bush Braai (weather permitting) and you will have the chance to take part in a Safari Game Drive on your motorcycle if you wish. Please note that this will be guided and you will not be permitted to ride by yourself at any time. Your guide Alex is a very experienced bush guide so will remain with you at all times.

Day 9

After a hearty breakfast we will say goodbye to the Safari Reserve and its wildlife and head back West, exploring many local villages along the way. We’ll overnight in a hotel that was used as a hospital by British forces during the Anglo/Boer wars in the small Dutch Reform town of Dullstroom.

Day 10

After a relaxed start, we’ll take an easy ride back towards JHB via Belfast, said to be one of the last battle grounds of the Boer War. In JHB, once the bikes have been checked back in, we will transfer those who have evening flights to the airport and those who wish to stay a little longer can get transfers to local accommodation.

NOTE.

It is Whale season along the coast of the Western Cape so why not book a few days in and around Cape Town and enjoy some delightful Whale watching. Ask for details.
