23 Feb 0 It Just Keeps Getting Better. February 23, 2013 By Alex Jackson Touring South Africa 0 Last nights accommodation was a place I have wanted to try for a long time. Set on the outskirts of Oudtshoorn, Buffelsdrift Game Lodge is some 3000 hectares of bush land. The accommodation comprises of around 20 canvas tents which may not sound very luxurious but when you see the setting and the way they are fitted out inside you can see why they are pretty much full all the year round. At 5pm we gathered for the afternoon game drive around the property. Our guide Henk very soon found us various types of buck including Springbok Cape Eland and Red Hartebeest. Sundowners on top of the hill close to the camp finished off the drive and we headed back for a wonderful dinner of Fillet of Kudu. The next morning it was back to the routine of packing the kit back on the bike and doing the usual checks on the KLR. Oil done chain lubed and cash out for fuel….if only I had remembered to actually get the fuel… I even went as far as resetting the trip meter. Note the the guys at Cape Bike Rentals in Cape Town….. You can get over 350km from the bike before you have to switch to reserve! Fuel sorted in the allegedly haunted town of Uniondale ( didn’t have the spirit to find out) I headed up to the remains of the Boer Fort and then on to my favourite pass in the Western Cape. Prince Alfred pass is 84km of simply awesome gravel road that heads through the mountains making its way down to Knysna. On the route I stopped off to see Angie and Harold at Angies “G” Spot then pushed on to the coast finally arriving at tonight’s destination which is another of SANParks rest camp. Ebb and Flow is situated on the edge of the village of Wilderness. I have been given a very large log cabin set by the side of the river which sleeps four and means I can spread all my kit out….only to repack tomorrow. Will write about this and tomorrow’s camp later. I have just had a fantastic pizza down in the village at Cocomo’s and now I am going to kick back and listen to the sounds of the forest. I want a KLR!!! AJ.
