Itinerary:
Day 1
Arrive Cape Town International Airport where you will be collected by air-conditioned transport and transferred to your first nights accommodation. Spend the day exploring the Mother City at your leisure or simply relax in one of the many bars or restaurants in the area… You will be met for dinner at one of the local restaurants by your Kaapstad Host and the programme for the next 7 days will be discussed.
Day 2
After an early breakfast we will pick up the motorcycles and once the paperwork and bike orientation is done we head out of the City via the N1 highway up passed the Haweqwa Nature Reserve to Worcester where we will then pick up the R62 Highway and head on through the towns of Robertson and Ashton following the awesome Tradouw Pass with its twisty tar road finally arriving at our destination for the evening in Barrydale on the edge of the Klein Karoo.
Day 3
Heading along the R62 in the Klein Karoo (Little Desert) we will stop for cool drinks at the World Famous Ronnie’s Sex Shop (a Bar!!) Where Ronnie’s is always happy to regale the story of how his establishment ended up with its unusual name. Onward crossing the Klein Karoo and then head north over the Klein Swartberg Mountain range back on to the N1 highway at Langsburg Riding up to the small town of Prince Albert we head over what is considered one of the greatest passes in South Africa. Once through the pass we will arrive in the town of Oudtstoorn for our overnight stay. Dine in one of the many restaurants in this quaint old town.
Day 4
Heading east out of Oudtshoorn we take the tar roads to Uniondale and then south along Prince Alfred Pass 80 km of fantastic gravel pass following the river and natural curves of the mountains. Stopping along the way for lunch by the river at Angie’s G Spot (can be hard to find for some…) at the southern end of the pass lies the town of Knysna. Here we can head further East and visit the Highest Bungee Jump in the World if the group wishes or we can head West along the N2 and have some relaxation time in the aptly named village of Wilderness. Over night at this beautiful coastal location.
Day 5
An easy start to today as we head along the N2 westward following the coastline until we reach the town of Riversdale when we head across to pick up some long flat gravel roads across a completely contrasting landscape compared with the last few days. Picnic lunch by the roadside and take in your surroundings before we finally arrive in the Whale Watching town of Witsand. The beaches here are some of the widest you will ever see with the enormous sand dunes in the background. Fantastic sunset and sunrise photos to be had here.
Day 6
Breakfast then head out of town westward to Malgas where you will have the unique experience of crossing the Breede River on the only hand pull raft left in the Southern Hemisphere. Now you know you are in Africa!! Follow the gravel road down to the southern most tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas where you can have your Southern most beer or wine and meal.
Day 7
Follow the gravel road out across the Agulhas nature reserve we can take a picnic lunch for a welcome stop on the beach and early afternoon we can be in the Historic Whaling town of Hermanus. During the season you can easily spot Southern Right Whales from the roadside in the centre of the town. With its plentiful bars and restaurants this is an ideal final overnight stop for your South African Adventure road trip. Dine with the group and recollect your “best bits” of your holiday. We think you will find it hard to choose just one.
Day 8
By no means is your journey over. We still have an incredible day of riding all tar roads today hugging the coastline as we do so. Leave Hermanus after breakfast and head along the coastal road stopping for group photos as we do so. Time willing we shall visit the Cape of Good Hope at Cape Point the up and over Chapman’s Peak which is a true pleasure to ride. Back into Cape town for late afternoon here is where we say our goodbyes and either you can be transferred to a local hotel if you are staying on in Cape Town (at your own expense) or we will transfer you to the airport ready for your journey home. Take home the memories and brown faces that will make you the envy of all your biking friends.
