Latest news on Ride for Rhinos

In the past couple of weeks things have really started to hot up as far as our R4R project is concerned. We have had some fantastic messages of support sent in by some amazing people including TV Presenters Julia Bradbury, Henry Cole and the 2017 Dakar winner Sam Sunderland.

Ride for Rhinos

Anti Poaching DogsIt’s not just good luck messages either. We have had a great response from many of the accommodation owners along our route with fantastic deals and also many complimentary stays. This all boosts the fund which we can use for the Anti Poaching project. We have been in contact with the Head Ranger of Kruger National Park and we have agreed that we will purchase, train and support a specialist K9 Tracker Dog with the funds we raise. I was recently fortunate enough to follow one of these K9’s in action and have to say that I was very impressed with the skill of the dog and handler alike. These teams have already shown that they have made a considerable difference in the park with arrests increasing significantly this year to June.

KTM 1290 SWe have a new partner on board in the form of KTM South Africa who are lending me a KTM 1290 S Adventure to complete the ride on. I have to say I am really looking forward to this as I rode one for about an hour in the UK and loved it. I have a feeling I am not going to want to give this one back after 18 days riding. KTM SA and KTM UK have also agreed to repost everything as we ride the route. You will even be able to follow the team on a “Live” map as the KTM will be fitted with a device from Bike Trac UK and they will have a live link on their website. This is going to be fun!!

You may also have seen that we are running a “Crowdfunding” page with Just Giving. Earlier this week we were contacted by a mystery donor who has not only already matched every donation made so far but has pledged to do the same again up to the page expiring in 12 days time. This is a fantastic gesture by someone who has a massive love of animals. I am not able to divulge the name of the donor but I will say on behalf of the R4R Team a massive THANK YOU. If you would like to make a donation then you can do so by following the link to our page just HERE
