Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive at Cape Town International Airport where you will be collected by air-conditioned transport and transferred to your luxury guesthouse. Here you can relax for the rest of the day and prepare for the journey ahead. All this while you soak up the wonderful views of Table Mountain and Robben Island. You will be met by Alex for dinner at one of the local restaurants and the programme for the next 12 days will be discussed.

Day 2

With the bikes delivered to the door of your guesthouse, we can enjoy a good breakfast and then get on the road. It’s quite a long day for the first day as we ride some 550 kms up the West Coast to the town of Springbok. All tar, but with fantastic scenery along the way. We will stop for lunch somewhere along the road and of course take lots of photos. Cool drinks can be purchased and left in the toolbox on the chase vehicle. Overnight in Springbok and prepare to enter Namibia the following day. We will dine in one of the local restaurants this evening.

Day 3

After an easy start to the day we head for the Namibian border, riding some fantastic passes along the route. Once into Namibia we will continue North to the small town of Grunau where we will hit the gravel and ride into the Gondwana Nature Reserve. A great treat awaits on arrival at Canyon Roadhouse. Themed as a motor museum, with a pleasant bar and friendly staff, it really is a pleasure to stay here. Make sure you check out Pandora’s Box while you’re here!

Day 4

After a leisurely breakfast, we take a short ride to see the second Largest canyon in the world. Fish River Canyon is absolutely breathtaking and you will get some very special photos here of yourself and the bikes. We’ll then ride to one of the local lodges where we can take lunch, and if you wish you can either take a ride around the area or return to Canyon Roadhouse and relax by the pool.

Day 5

Fuel-up at Canyon Roadhouse before heading out along gravel roads to Seehiem and then West to the small town of Aus. Here you will stay at Klein Aus Vista, and if we’re early enough you can ride out to see the Wild Desert Horses. A good mix of fun gravel and tar for today’s ride. Desert Horse Inn is another of the superb Gondwana collection of lodges and you will most certainly enjoy your stay here.

Day 6

Well rested, we will have breakfast and then head deeper into the desert with our route being determined by fuel stations. There is a rule here that if you see fuel you should get it! Today you will understand why Namibia is the second least-populated country in the world. We will be riding towards the iconic Sossusvlei Sand Dunes. Our aim is to arrive at our tented accommodation at Hoodia Lodge, which certainly can’t be mistaken for camping. This is a luxury lodge set in the desert beneath the mountains.

Day 7

This morning you’ll have a very early start as we hand you over to the care of the resident guide at Hoodia Desert Lodge. He will take you for a full-day safari trip into the mighty Sossusvlei Dunes. You will enjoy lunch and get the chance to climb the iconic Dune 7. Make sure you pack your camera for this all-inclusive day out. Overnight once more at Hoodia Desert Lodge.

Day 8

Leaving the tranquility of the lodge behind after breakfast, we will ride North across great gravel roads to the small town of Solitaire; where again we refuel and then take a short diversion to the Tropic of Capricorn before starting back East along wide-open gravels roads to the town of Maltahone. This is a very small town, with just one grocery shop, a hotel, and a local shabeen, which is very welcoming after a dusty day’s riding. We will stay in the Maltahone Hotel for the night where we can also dine.

Day 9

A choice of routes to our next stop at Keetmanshoop where we will overnight at the quirky Birds Mansions Hotel. Great outside bar and friendly staff. Either gravel, tar, or a mix of both. All approx 300kms.

Day 10

Heading into the Kalahari Desert today and also back into South Africa. A small border post for the crossing and some jeep tracks that could be described as roads until we reach our destination. Augrabies Falls National Park is one of the best parks in the SANParks portfolio. It’s going to be a long day, but you will see it’s well worth it once we arrive at the Falls. Great dining and beautiful views.

Day 11

Reluctantly leaving the Falls and the Park behind we will be riding West through the town of Pofadder, crossing the Kalahari once more on long, long tar roads stretching for miles. Plenty of time for photos and videos today. We will overnight once more in the town of Springbok.

Day 12

A nice easy start to today. We are on the return leg so we will take a relaxed ride South on the N7, stopping for a light lunch in Bitterfontein, before continuing South to our overnight stop in a very typical South African town named Clanwilliam. Your guesthouse is located in the town centre and we will walk to one of the local diners for our evening meal and spend time chatting over the last two weeks of awesome riding.

Day 13
Our final day on the road, but let’s not see the end to the gravel riding just yet. From Clanwilliam we will cut across to the Cederberg Wilderness area then over the many passes until we hit the highway that will take us back into Cape Town. Once there, we will drop-off the bikes, say our goodbyes, and arrange your transfer back to the airport. Unless you want to stay longer at your own expense of course!
